Jim Ziolkowski is a social entrepreneur and the founder of the non-profit organization, "BuildOn." He was born on March 12, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, and has a degree in finance from the University of Michigan. After a successful career in corporate finance, he decided to change his life and use his skills to help others.
In 1991, Jim traveled to Nepal as a volunteer English teacher and was struck by the poverty and lack of education in the village where he was staying. He decided to start a non-profit organization that would build schools and empower communities in developing countries. The organization, BuildOn, has since built more than 1,500 schools in some of the world's most impoverished places, including Haiti, Nicaragua, Mali, and Nepal.
Jim has also written a book about his experiences called "Walk in Their Shoes: Can One Person Change the World?" which became a New York Times bestseller. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Purpose Prize, the Humanitarian Award from the United Nations Association, and the Jefferson Award for Public Service. Jim continues to inspire others to make a difference in the world through his work with BuildOn and his speaking engagements.
